Nice tactic joel. I roughly follow Andrew Davis' method: An Approach to the Extended Memorization of Scripture.
Seems to work alright :)

Ephesians... no profound reason. I already had the first 10 verses from a few years back, so thought I might as well start there.
Its been awesome so far. First 1.5 chapters are gold!

Luke - haha! I won't, but John might :) (Does anyone else hear a whooshing sound? Like something flying over a head?)

Great quote from Piper.
Got me keen to get stuck into scripture more.

My tactic is to play an .mp3 of a chapter over and over to familiarise myself with it (while commuting)

Then I would study it, so I was memorising something in context and true meaning.

Then I would listen to it until I could speak along with it
Or read until I could look up and keep remembering it

I found for me, that was way easier than remembering short phrases/verses and putting them together.

Got a few chapters each from Romans, James and Isaiah so far.

Its interesting to hear what people memorise too. Why Ephesians? Sounds like a great one to start next.

Wow, I like your ambition! 16 verses in just over a week is not slow, you're doing great! (I aim for a verse a day, have almost got the first 2 chapters of Ephesians)
Memorising Psalm 119 would be easier in the Hebrew ;) John Piper used to (and might still) recite that psalm as he walked to work every day.

I decided to try and memorise Psalm 119 (I figure if I can get that, than anything else will be a cakewalk).

I started a week or so ago, and I have Aleph and the start of Beth memorised. I'm slow.
