There’s a brilliant version of this in the play/film A Man for All Seasons: Thomas More (future saint) is betrayed in the courtroom by Richard Rich, who has clearly been made Welsh Attorney General in advance for his act. More says to him, “Richard…it profits a man nothing to lose his soul for the whole world…but for Wales?”
I encourage everyone to find and watch the 1966 film, believers or not. Not only is it an incredible film, but More as characterised in it is a standard by which I measure any other person of faith and/or principle. He sacrifices everything to do what he believes he must.
