So maybe Fairtrade isn’t the best option (though I’m still not sure what is). I feel like I need more information. Here are some links to reliable sources of information about the slave trade:
Unicef have a section of their website devoted to child exploitation and abuse (and a factsheet), while UNESCO has information and links to more.
Here is the 2007 U.S. Department of State Trafficking in Persons Report (you can find previous years if you browse around.)
Freedomcenter.org has lots of information. And have a look at freetheslaves.net.
If you have any more links, please leave them in the comments.
« I like to torture babies for fun. What? Torturing babies for fun is just plain wrong. »

Thanks for the links. Though I have my (many) doubts about Fair Trade, it is a step in the right direction. I don’t want to be a passive spectator who says, “oh well, I can’t do anything about it so I don’t care”. We must be concerned with the plight of the poor, the oppressed, the widowed and the fatherless.
Well said!
Boycott Nestle also.
People who partake in and profit from child slavery (either labour or sexual) need to be hunted down and thrown into a giant blender. And their remains can go and be used as fertilisers for the good of the children who had been working for them. Give them a fresh start for agriculture.

Yeah, saw that on Craig’s blog. Very interesting – especially the discussion in the comment. Thanks for sharing
