… and why every single church has its own agenda.
I had an interesting conversation while waiting for a bus on the weekend. Here’s part of it:
Him, as soon as he works out I’m a Christian: “Ok, ok… I have one question for you: why has every single war in history been started over religion?”
Me, ignoring the glaring untruth of his question to go for the root of his concern: “Because humans are sinful, which just shows what the Bible says about us is true. And because ideologies are powerful.”
Him, after a pause: “Hmmm… ok, I’ll accept that… ok, here’s my problem with churches. I think all churches are pushing their own barrow, whether that’s financial or spiritual”
Me, while trying to work out what a spiritual barrow looks like: “I’d say the same thing as before – humans are sinful. Being part of a church doesn’t change that. Christians are sinners just like everybody else. There’s a saying: ‘If you find a perfect church, don’t join it. You’ll only screw it up’.”
Him: “I like that… I haven’t heard that before…”
And so the conversation continued.

It is, in fact, untrue. In the same way that saying “all people on the planet are male” is untrue though.
Not all of them are caused by religion, but a worrying number use it as their justification.
Yep. Couldn’t have said it better myself.
